His poem "An Account of a Visit from St. Nicholas, " first published anonymously in 1823, became known as the Christmas classic "The Night Before Christmas. " The story was written as a Christmas gift for his six children. Moore was a lifelong New Yorker and died in his summer home in Newport, Rhode Island. Ethel Hays (1892 - 1989) was an American Art Deco cartoonist and children's book illustrator from Billings, Montana. One of the most successful and influential female cartoonists and illustrators of the time, she worked and lived across the country until her death in New Mexico.
